Strain Profile – Bafokeng Choice 20 l 1

The story behind Bafokeng Choice 20 l 1

The seeds used to create the strain were procured from a company in the Netherlands. The strain was known as White Lemon and it was crossed with a local landrace grown in Marakabei, Lesotho (White Lemon Cross). Bafokeng Choice (M-238 strain) was then selected from a pool of White Lemon Cross plants, after several chemotypes and phenotypic tests. It was selected for its good plant structure, short flowering time, mildew tolerance, good bud morphology and stress tolerance.

This strain (M-238) Chemotype Characteristics delivers maximum THC of between 18.00 – 22.00%.

The dominant terpenes in strain M-238 are D-limonene, Linalool, β-caryophyllene and alpha-humulene. Terpenes are responsible for the aroma of Cannabis, they are quite potent and display therapeutic effects that may contribute to the entourage effects of cannabis-based medicinal extracts.

The entourage effects can be explained as a synergistic effect of a variety of ‘inactive’ metabolites and closely related molecules increasing the activity of the primary endogenous cannabinoids namely anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2- AG).
